Dawn Weaver… couldn’t help it, wanted to go see, and learn from her in person. I had read her book, in fact I’m reading it again. I must admit, on initial read, I found some of her handling a bit odd… to me anyway. Quite different then what I am used to.
I found it helpful and extra fun that a couple of the participants at this seminar were a few instructors/handlers/competitors who I greatly respect :).
When I was at the Montana camp with Stacy and Sonya, Sonya introduced a few of Dawn’s handling cues and I was intrigued with how much information they were actually giving the dog…for example, how to take a jump, where they were going next. I loved it!
Here are two short videos with Daneen Fox working with one of Dawn’s dogs, perhaps not perfectly executed (she does run a pap), but gives a good idea. Sorry, these videos may not work with Firefox.
Updated 3/13: As with many things, it takes me a while to “feel” it. What I am finding is that I may not do the moves exactly as Dawn shows, or exactly like others have shown, but I am finding that I am creating my own handling style… what works for me and my dogs (not the same for both of them). There is never “one right way” for every handler or dog. I encourage everyone to explore and learn as much as you can from many instructors and handlers that spark your interest!
